This is the Roadmaster Active Suspension (RAS). What it does is deliver improved vehicle handling, hauling safety, fuel economy, and reductions in vehicle wear. RAS is a patented design that improves performance of rear leaf-spring suspension systems on a wide variety of pickups and vans. The system significantly enhances stability and control while also increasing the load-carrying capacity. Further, the manufacturer claims significant increases in fuel economy and reductions in tire wear when carrying a load. RAS is a bolt-on system that consists of two powerful variable-rate coil springs that support and assist the rear leaf springs. By applying 1,800 pounds of tension between the axle and the eye of each of the leaf springs, RAS keeps the springs in their original and best-functioning bowed position.
